Principles of Politics Applicable to All Governments Paperback – Illustrated, October 1, 2003. By 1815 French republican writer, journalist, philosopher and politician Benjamin Constant.

Human Action – The Scholar’s Edition (Hardcover). By Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises. Every serious economist and anyone seriously interested in economics should read this.

Human Action Study Guide. By the indefatibable Robert P. Murphy. Buy it here from the Mises.org store.

How an Economy Grows and Why It Crashes (Hardcover) – Illustrated, May 3, 2010. By investor and fund manager Peter Schiff and his brother Andrew. An excellent introduction to economics for teenagers.

Crisis and Leviathan: Critical Episodes in the Growth of American Government (A Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy Book) Paperback – March 2, 1989. By economic historian Robert Higgs. Shows how government tends to grow larger when crises occur. After the crisis has passed, it does not shrink back to its former size.

The Road to Serfdom: The Definitive Edition (The Collected Works of F. A. Hayek) Paperback – March 30, 2007. By Nobel-prize-winning Austrian economist Friedrich A. Hayek, colleague, fellow-countryman and student of Ludwig von Mises. “Originally published in 1944—when Eleanor Roosevelt supported the efforts of Stalin, and Albert Einstein subscribed lock, stock, and barrel to the socialist program.”

The Free and Prosperous Commonwealth; An Exposition of the Ideas of Classical Liberalism Paperback – February 8, 2012. By Ludwig von Mises. Reprint of 1962.

Meltdown: A Free-Market Look at Why the Stock Market Collapsed, the Economy Tanked, and the Government Bailout Will Make Things Worse Hardcover – February 9, 2009. Written by historian Thomas E. Woods Jr in his usual flowing and easy-to-read style, you’d never guess this was written in a few weeks just as the 2008 financial crisis was cresting.

America’s Great Depression Paperback – December 30, 2008. One of Murray N. Rothbard’s greatest contributions to economic history: the story of the Great Depression as told by the memos and statistics and newspaper articles of the time. Definitely not what you learned in school.

An Enemy of the State: The Life of Murray N. Rothbard Hardcover – July 1, 2000. By journalist Justin Raimondo.

The Failure of the New Economics: An Analysis of the Keynesian Fallacies (1959) Paperback – August 31, 2010. There has yet to be written the academic refutation of Keynes’ famous yet obscure and confused “General Theory”, but until then, perhaps this is one of the next best things: economic journalist Henry Hazlitt’s admirable attempt. Hazlitt was a student of Ludwig von Mises and instrumental in bringing him to New York and so escaping the Nazis, and arranging a teaching position for him.

Cato’s Letters, Or, Essays on Liberty, Civil and Religious, and Other Important Subjects Paperback – September 1, 1995. “Cato’s Letters were essays by British writers John Trenchard and Thomas Gordon, first published from 1720 to 1723 under the pseudonym of Cato (95–46 BC), the implacable foe of Julius Caesar and a famously stubborn champion of republican principles (mos maiorum).” (Wikipedia).

Literature and the Economics of Liberty: Spontaneous Order in Culture Hardcover. By Paul A. Cantor and Stephen Cox.

The Strange Death of Marxism: The European Left in the New Millennium Paperback – October 22, 2018. By Paul Edward Gottfried.
